Coenzyme Q10 is a fat-soluble nutrient that is present in every human cell, especially concentrated in the heart, liver and kidneys, and is essential as it allows food to be metabolized into cellular energy. In the body, coenzyme Q10 exists either in its oxidized form - ubiquinone or in reduced form - ubiquinol. The human body produces coenzyme Q10 on its own, it can also be found in food such as fatty fish, sardines and mackerel, whole grains, soy, nuts, meat and vegetables - especially spinach and broccoli. Quantities in food are relatively low, partly due to heat treatment. With age, the concentration of Q10 in the body decreases.
